The number of mounts shall not exceed one (1) per wheel and shall not exceed one (1) inch in thickn...

Re: The NEW Formula500.org Reset Your Password to Login!

Chuck, I tested the credentials you sent over in both IE11 and Firefox on a Windows 8.1 VM I had lying around. Both worked right out of the box, with nothing special. In Firefox, you can try enabling the developer tools and see if the actual username & password being sent to the server are as ex...

Re: The NEW Formula500.org Reset Your Password to Login!

Chuck, I just did a test using IE11 + Windows 8.1, IE10 + Windows 7 and Firefox + Windows 8.1, and all three logins worked just fine for me. Obviously you can login from some machine, since you logged in to post that - so I'm guessing it's only your laptop that's giving you fits? If so, my guess wou...

While we're at it, why don't we switch to Honda Fit motors so that people don't complain about them being "motorcycle motors", or if we're going to stick with the bike motors, we should at least go up to 1000cc - but with wings.

FYI, for our cooling system my last two cars had both radiators plumbed in parallel, with high power fans on both radiators. The fans were then wired to run off the small onboard battery (Odessey p680) while on course. In the pits we used to use a lawn tractor battery to run both the fans and an aux...

Chris nailed it with #1: Wings are expensive and the goal of the class is to minimize costs. Sure you could buy a "wing" at Pep Boys for $100 - and it might even make some downforce at speed.... but to do it right you're looking at exponential costs in CFD or wind tunnel time (since this i...

An argument for allowing reverse orientation: Flipping the motor around would probably also help those with wheelbase concerns. With all the hot bits facing to the rear, you could feasibly have the motor sitting right up to the rear axle - and then you could push the jackshaft right back to the new ...

The way you would do a reverse drive chain is to have one of the two sprockets be outside the chain loop. In order to get adequate tension on that sprocket, you'd need to use two idler sprockets either side of it. It's not uncommon to see an automotive serpentine belt reverse drive an accessory or t...

I used 93 octane E10 pump gas for 3 years in my Kawi powered autocross car, with no issues (well at least none relating to fuel quality). No idea how it impacted power vs race gas, since I never tested one way vs the other.

The only issue I could see with plastic-topped scales is that there could be some binding internally of the scale causing inconsistent results if you don't put the center of pressure from the tire directly over the center of the scale pad. You could easily test for and verify this by weighing your c...

There wouldn't be any costs associated with having multiple classified categories, it just takes 5-10 minutes in the admin console to set them up. The bigger question is if we want it. The benefits are obvious, but to me the tradeoff is that the reduced "noise" will make the classified sec...

I could see the merits of this, but at the same time it's main benefit only really comes into play if there's enough volume in the classifieds section. Looking at the current classified pages, I only need to look as far as page 2 to see ads dating back to October. Anything older than this is much le...

The 440 was never used from the factory with an electric fuel pump, so you won't find anything specific for it. I suspect any low-pressure pump would work, and you shouldn't really need anything but the most basic volume model to handle the whopping 75hp you're making. As for carb parts & jets -...

You're right... and then we've thrown massive carbs on them and destroyed any low-velocity fuel metering characteristics that they came off the assembly line with.

Do you have any kind of enricher (choke) or primer on the car? It's not unusual for it to want a little extra fuel to start first thing in the morning, and it's much better to use fuel for this than starting fluid.

I too assembled my first car from a frame up (early Red Devil) by matching up bolt holes and wear patterns. A few pieces I ended up replacing or redesigning as I did it, but at least matching up the old parts let me see what the original idea was.
