Re: F-Mod Car For Sale ('84 Red Devil) - $5k

Thanks, Jim. Most of what you listed still applies to the car. I know the rear axle has been replaced with one from Mike Quadrini, which is the standard replacement for the KBS / QRE cars. I think it is 3/8" wall. The old one was bent when I bought the car. The gearing has also been changed to ...

F-Mod Car For Sale ('84 Red Devil) - SOLD

Two young kids and other time commitments mean it is time to step away from F-Mod for a while. The car started off as a 1984 Red Devil. It has since been updated/modified several times. I believe it now has a modified KBS back half. The general specs for the car: - 493 Motor (3 events since it was f...

Wow! Never thought I'd see an F600 with the old school swing arm suspension.

Thanks, Bill. I definitely will be rechecking the carbs and intake boots. Once I acquire the necessary tools, I'll also check the piston and cylinder to see if they are still in spec. I hope you are right that new rings and honing the cylinders is all it needs.

493 Issue - Help with diagnosis

I am trying to figure out what caused the motor issues in my F-Mod car. At the last event (Wilmington Match Tour), the motor clearly had issues (down on power and a knock at idle (you can hear the motor in this video of our last run of the day http://youtu.be/8uYV08iva-0 ). Compression test showed 6...

Wilmington - Match Tour

Assuming I get the rear axle on my car back together, this will be my first national solo event. Paul Magee and Lisa Holdren are also registered. Is anyone else planning to run this event?

Wanted: KBS MK4 / Kawi parts

I suspect most people have either sold or junked this stuff after switching to Rotax power, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. I'm looking for: - an axle to fit a MK4 KBS (1 1/8" solid). Mine is slightly tweaked. I know the long term fix is to upgrade to something stronger. However, if someone ...

Thanks, Scott. That was what I had thought, but wanted to make sure I was on the right track. I dropped the cracked header off at a local shop this morning. My welding abilities certainly are not at that level, yet. The EGT for that cylinder was peaking at or just above 1200 at the last event. A com...

Cracked exhaust / high EGT

I've been trying to figure out why one cylinder of my Kawi powered autocross car has been running hotter than the other for the last few events. Tonight while reattaching the springs at the front of the pipe for that cylinder, I felt the the exhaust header shift. Turns out that the weld at the flang...

Is anyone on here headed to Mid Ohio for the 5/31-6/2 event? Kawi oil check valves

The check valves for the oil lines on my 440 powered KBS leak, which causes oil to collect in the crankcase when it sits. I found and ordered one check valve on eBay, but I haven't found another source for them. Does anyone happen to have a couple sitting around or know of a place I can get them? Th...

Hmm. I guess EGTs are better than nothing.

I haven't really seen any positive feedback on the RacePak unit. So, I don't think I'll invest any more time / money into it. Probably will start keeping an eye out for a good deal on something better.

Thanks for the info.

Kawi wiring quesiton - tach

My KBS MK IV has a RacePak Avenger II, which currently only shows EGT readings. I'd like to get it setup to display RPM as well. My initial attempts at changing the wiring around have been unsuccessful. It currently has the 2 wire power/RPM harness. The instructions indicate the red wire should be c...

Thanks to the folks on this forum, this past weekend I brought home an '88 KBS MK IV If the weather cooperates, I plan to run it in an autocross this Saturday. How much do you know about 2 stroke snowmobile drivetrains? The more you know the fewer COSTLY mistakes you will suffer. Learn everything you can now. If the owner is close enough, make a deal to do a test day with him so that he can show you all the idiosynchroncies (sp?) of the car. HTH, Jim Admi...

Here's another possibility (not mine) and much closer to you in Ohio - http://www.racingjunk.com/Formula/2760809/Red-Devil-Formula-440.html It also has the most interesting exhaust system I've seen. And the tires, if they are really brand new, are worth about $650 alone. Looks like this one has the...

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. You confirmed what I suspected. My goal is primarily to have fun. Good candidate for auto-x?

Hi, I've recently started getting back into autocross, and I got an opportunity to drive a formula 500 car. I think I'm hooked. So, I've been watching the for sale ads on this forum (and a couple others). I'm located in central Ohio, and am hoping to find an affordable F500 car that is either alread...
